Morning Gainers: Nordion (NYSE:NDZ) and Conn’s (NASDAQ:CONN)

Nordion Inc. (NYSE:NDZ) reported that its fiscal third-quarter profit rallied, courtesy to the sale of one of its business divisions, while revenue and revised earnings topped Wall Street’s predictions.

Nordion, which manufactures medical isotopes used to diagnose and cure disease and also provides sterilization technology, has reported carried results lately.

The firm has been carrying on a strategic assessment of its functions. As an element of the assessment, Nordion in July sold its aimed therapies divisions to BTG PLC for $190 million, resulting in a rise of almost $182 million.

For the quarter concluded July 31, Nordion declared a profit of $180.4 million, or $2.91 per share, higher as compared to $12.3 million, or 20 cents per share, a year ago.

Omitting the impact of the targeted-therapies unit sale and other items, the firm reported a profit of 20 cents a share, lower as compared to 25 cents a share.

Conn’s (NASDAQ:CONN) reported that its fiscal second-quarter profit jumped up 65% as furniture and mattress sales resulted in robust revenue growth, assisting to offset decline in the credit unit.

The Texas-aimed seller of consumer electronics, home appliances, and other products has been aiming on superior margin items consisting of furniture and mattresses to enhance its faring in latest quarters.
