Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccine division of French drug maker Sanofi SA (NYSE:SNY), reported on Monday that its new influenza vaccine indicated positive results in people over 65 years of age in its latest clinical trials.

Outcomes of a huge-scale, multi-center efficacy trial indicated a better clinical advantage of Fluzone High-Dose, in contrast to the standard dose of Fluzone vaccine in fighting influenza.

In the research, Fluzone High-Dose vaccine was 24.2% more effective in fighting influenza in adults over 65 years old than Fluzone vaccine. Furthermore, the study results indicated consistent clinical benefit throughout the study years, influenza virus types, clinical illness definitions, and laboratory means of influenza assurance.

BHP Billiton Ltd. (NYSE:BHP) on Monday reported that Marcus Randolph, a top executive who has been on prolonged sick leave, would move out of his job next week.

Mr. Randolph was previously on leave from his position as chief executive of BHP’s ferrous metals and coal unit when Andrew Mackenzie, the mining firm’s new chief executive, sketched out a layer of senior management and nominated a new team to assist him to operate the firm just weeks prior to taking up his post in the start of this year.

Mr. Randolph had been nominated from chief organization development officer by Mr. Mackenzie’s predecessor, Marius Kloppers, just before he became CEO in 2007.
