Volume Buzzers: International Paper Co. (NYSE:IP) and Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. (NYSE:MJN)

International Paper Co. (NYSE:IP) announced that its second-quarter profit jumped up 93%, as the paper firm declared superior sales in the presence of robust volumes and superior margins.

The paper-and-pulp firm last year finished its $3.48 billion takeover of opponent Temple-Inland Inc. following months of conflict from the manufacturer of corrugated packaging and building items.

International Paper declared a profit of $259 million, or 57 cents per share, higher, as compared to $134 million, or 31 cents per share, a year ago same quarter. Omitting reformation charges and other items, per-share earnings from continuing operations jumped up to 52 cents from 27 cents.

Net sales climbed up 3.6%, to $7.34 billion. Experts surveyed by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of 56 cents per share and $7.42 billion in revenue. Gross margin increased to 26.2% from 25.5%.

Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. (NYSE:MJN) announced that its second-quarter earnings declined 2.2%, as the manufacturer of nutritional products, including Enfamil baby formula, logged superior expenses, offsetting an increase in sales.

The firm has normally witnessed enhancement in sales in recent years, supported by growth in rising and developing markets. The stock has increased 7.3% since the beginning of the year.
