Insider Selling Spotlight: Six Flags Entertainment Corp (NYSE:SIX),  Questar Corporation (NYSE:STR), Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD)

As a general rule, insider buying shows management’s confidence in the company, and is considered a bullish sign—in other words a sign that stock prices are likely to go up. Conversely, insider selling is considered bearish—those in the know may be off loading their stocks in an expectation that prices will soon fall. So it pays to keep an eye on the activities of insiders.

Studies have shown that prompt and timely dissemination of insider transactions are profitable for investors, as insiders tend to beat the market. The odds in favor of an insider purchase being followed by further purchases are three times greater than the odds of a purchase followed by a sale.

Six Flags Entertainment Corp (NYSE:SIX) saw an insider sell on Mar 30, 2016 that may make shareholders worried. REID-ANDERSON JAMESREID-ANDERSON JAMES, Exec. Chairman, sold 108,354 shares at $55.48 a piece. The total sale came to $6,011,617, leaving the total count to 3,543,746 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 5.80% while institutional investors own about 88.90%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -37.86%. On the other side, -0.70% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.

Moving on to the second insider trade which involved Bell Colleen Larkin, a VP & General Counsel at Questar Corporation (NYSE:STR) sold 2,000 shares at $24.78 per share to trim the total holding at 13,398 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 0.40% while institutional investors own about 82.00%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -0.99%. On the other side, 1.46% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.

Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BRCD) also received some insider trading action as FAIRFAX DANIEL W, who the company’s SVP and CFO is sold some 12,000 shares at a price of $10.23 per share to the holding that now comprises of 12,000 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 0.40% while institutional investors own about 87.80%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -1.68%. On the other side, -5.23% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.
