As a general rule, insider buying shows management’s confidence in the company, and is considered a bullish sign—in other words a sign that stock prices are likely to go up. Conversely, insider selling is considered bearish—those in the know may be off loading their stocks in an expectation that prices will soon fall. Unum Group (NYSE:UNM) saw an insider sell on Mar 01, 2016 that may make shareholders worried. WATJEN THOMAS R, director, sold 40,000 shares at $30.00 a piece. The total sale came to $1,200,000, leaving the total count to 253,630 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 0.30% while institutional investors own about 97.80%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -31.77%. On the other side, -0.85% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.

Moving on to the second insider trade which involved Robbins William T, a Executive Vice President World at Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:NUAN) sold 20,000 shares at $20.40 per share to trim the total holding at 232,102 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 1.00% while institutional investors own about 88.20%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -28.87%. On the other side, 5.22% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.

Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE:DRI) also received some insider trading action as Smith Jeffrey C, who the company’s Director is sold some 150,000 shares at a price of $64.89 per share to the holding that now comprises of 217,662 shares. Its shares currently owned by company management are 0.20% while institutional investors own about 91.50%. The 6-month change recorded in total insider ownership was -93.70%. On the other side, 2.49% change in total institutional ownership has been reported for the 3-month period.
